Veterans transition centre

A Vision of Hope in Vancouver

Opening in 2026, the Veterans Transition Centre (VTC) will be a purpose-built facility in Vancouver, BC, dedicated to supporting Canadian Veterans as they transition to civilian life. Grounded in community, clinical excellence, and lived experience, the VTC will offer housing, trauma counselling, career guidance, and education support to help Veterans recover from operational stress and rebuild their lives post-service.

Backed by 30 years of research and frontline experience delivering the Veterans Transition Program, the VTC will bring together a proven model of healing and reintegration, all under one roof, close to military services and community resources.

For Some, the Battle Continues at Home

One in three Canadian Veterans struggle with PTSD, depression, or anxiety after leaving service. Veterans under 30 face suicide rates 2.5 times higher than their civilian peers. Without stable housing, trauma support, and career transition services, many risk falling through the cracks, despite having served our country.

Why Vancouver?

Point Grey has long been a home to Veterans and military families.

With the pending development of the Jericho lands in 2025–26, many Veterans currently housed there will soon need to relocate. The VTC will help meet this urgent need by offering 50–100 long-term rental units and a supportive, Veteran-led community.

Point Grey is close to:

  • Seaforth Armoury

  • Canadian Forces Transition Group

  • Downtown medical and counselling services

  • Vancouver’s strong job market and recreational spaces

Total funding goal:

$6,500,000

Phase 1: $500,000 for development planning and feasibility

Phase 2: $3 million for site acquisition and construction/renovation

Phase 3: $3 million for programming, staffing, rental, and subsidies

over 4 years

A National Model of Support

Building on successful models like Surrey’s Legion Veterans Village, the VTC will include:

  • Affordable housing for Veterans

  • On-site trauma-informed counselling

  • Peer-led community programs and mentorship

  • Career and education skills navigation

  • Counselling psychology practicum opportunities for UBC students

Veterans live and train in close quarters during service, bringing them together in civilian life offers camaraderie, healing, and connection.
